What is a social narrative?
A social narrative walks a person through what to expect out of a new experience. Our Library social narratives are small booklets or slideshows about what a person will see and hear at the library; what rules a person needs to follow; and what more the library offers to do, use, and experience in addition to books.
Who can it help?
A social narrative can help anyone! It is especially meant to help people with autism, ADHD, and/or anxiety feel comfortable with new experiences or visits to new places. However, our social narratives can also be used by people who are new to the community and want to know what the library offers, people visiting Mount Horeb who want to take a virtual tour before visiting, parents and caregivers who want to prepare their children for a visit to the library, and more!
Which social narrative is best for me?
We have a social narrative for children, which caregivers can use to prepare children for a visit to the library, and a social narrative for adults, which adults can use to view ahead of time what services and opportunities the library offers.
How can I access the social narratives?
You can view the social narratives as a slideshow right here on this webpage; you can click on the link to download and/or print the social narratives; or you can find physical copies at the library available for use in the library.
